Running a business can seem fun and sexy, but being an entrepreneur comes with its fair share of worry and stress. Here are are 6 easy ways to combat entrepreneurial anxiety.
During times like these, it’s easy for us to become anxious about ALL THE THINGS. We are in the middle of a global pandemic, people (maybe even you) have lost their jobs, restaurants and beaches are closing down…and the year is only halfway over!
2020 has tested us mentally and physically, and made us use up every emotion in our weakened arsenal. If you have been lucky enough to weather the storm as an employee, you may be doing okay. But, what if 2020 was the year you decided to jump ship from your stable job and start your own business? Talk about a stressful time to become a first-time entrepreneur!
Here are 6 easy ways to silence your anxious entrepreneurial thoughts before they get the best of you...
We all know sleep is important for recharging our bodies, but did you know that a good night’s sleep can help your mind tackle the day at with ease? As an entrepreneur, there are many questions to stress over that can cause our inner anxiety to flourish.
In order to better silence your fears and anxious thoughts, rest is of the utmost importance. In addition to sleeping, resting your mind could look like meditating for 10 minutes a day to refocus, taking a walk in nature, listening to your favorite feel-good song—anything that can get your mind out of its stressful state.
Schedules and plans are wonderful tools for organizing our busy days, but what happens when your schedule becomes overwhelming? This tends to happen to most first-time entrepreneurs whose To Do lists quickly become a mile long, creating crippling anxiety.
When faced with a terrifying To Do list, simply pick one task to focus on, and work on only that task until it is complete.
One of the joys of entrepreneurship is that nobody is forcing you to adhere to a strict deadline when you are just starting out. That means that even if it takes an entire day just to get one task done, that task might ultimately be the most beneficial task to your goal, so it will be time well-spent.
Don’t worry about rushing to get it all done. As they say, Rome wasn’t built in a day.
As women, most of us have a high tendency to overthink every step of the process. Whether it be the font we want to use for our logo or obsessing over which colors go with our Insta feed, seemingly simple tasks can cause us to panic if they are not executed perfectly.
However, striving for perfection often completely halts our progress. As an entrepreneur, you need to remember that getting something done, even if it’s not your best effort, could still be the exact right thing that your client needed. Shoot for putting out B- work, even if you’re used to being an A+ student. Because with practice, your sub-par efforts will grow to be shining A’s in no time.
Number 3 is important for entrepreneurs to silence their anxiety because it’s easy to get tied up in every single minute detail and get overwhelmed in the process. Taking a step back and remembering why you started this journey can help instantly refocus your energy.
Maybe your goal is to help people gain more Instagram followers, or sell a natural beauty product you believe in, but getting stuck on your never-ending task list is causing you undue stress and triggering your anxiety of failing. So, taking steps to combat these fears is key.
Writing out your plans in a journal is a great way to define your “why” Not only will writing down your purpose by hand help keep it front-and-center in your mind over time, you can always go back and refer to this journal entry when you’re feeling anxious in the future.
Finally picked out your color scheme? Great! Finally booked your first paying client? Awesome! Celebrating wins both big and small helps your brain to recognize that you have a pattern of success and accomplishment (instead of a pattern of defeat and failure). Being able to recognize every single thing you accomplish will give you an instant dopamine hit, and increase the odds that you will want to continue on your entrepreneurial journey.
And who doesn’t love an excuse to break out the Champagne every once in a while?
It is important to have others who support your goals, because the hardest part about building an online business is when you have to do it alone. Every great coach has had someone to guide them on their journey and ease their fears.
Hiring a mentor is a great way to silence first-time entrepreneur anxiety, because chances are, your coach has gone through similar dilemmas and made it out the other side.
